6.2 Lesson: How to Write a Journal Entry
    Journal Writing

Your gratitude journals are a place to personally connect and explain how
someone or something makes you feel grateful.
It has to be true and from your experiences to tell your story.

Elements of an Effective Journal Entry
    In your paragraph,

Identify the specific gratitude topic. (Be specific: if the topic is "friend,"
identify the friend's name; if the topic is "song," identify the song's name,
    etc.)
Develop your paragraph using explanation (who or what are you grateful
for and why?) and specific, illustrative details (what anecdote or
examples from your personal experience would show your gratitude
to tell your story? how did it make you feel? what impact has this had on
your life? what sensory details, if any, could you include?
Write in 1st person (I, me, my) since the writing is about your experience
and your perspective, and edit your writing for grammar and
mechanics, showing use of varied sentence structures.

    Gratitude Example Paragraphs

A few of my friends, former students, and colleagues answered different
gratitude prompts so that you would have some examples. I think they are
amazing! As you read them, think about how each writer's unique voice
comes through and how the details create an original expression, making
the gratitude come to life on the page. Doing this creates an authentic
connection between the writer and reader.

    Assessment Description

There are various approaches to teaching reading and numerous instructional strategies that educators can use to engage students in reading and comprehending narrative and informational texts. It is critical for student success for teachers to understand reading standards and to plan effective, standards-based reading instruction that is supportive of all learners. Additionally, teachers must align their assessments to the standards and instruction to provide appropriate opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery.

Utilize the “Planning Reading Instruction” template to complete the topic assignment.

**Part 1: Approaches to Reading Instruction**

Identify three approaches/methods (reading workshop, whole class reading of a core book, literature circles, sustained silent reading, etc.) to teaching reading and provide a 50-75 word description of each.

**Part 2: Reading Standards and Learning Objectives**

Write at least one measurable, developmentally appropriate learning objective for each of the provided reading standards.

**Part 3: Whole Group Reading Lesson**

Create a whole group reading lesson based on one of the standards and learning objectives in Part 2. Design differentiated activities that support the standard and learning objective that students can engage in before reading a text, while reading the text, and after reading the text.

Support the template with 2-3 scholarly resources.

While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.

You have read about both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation this week. Explain the similarities and differences between them. Consider your top three motivations for going to school, going to work etc., then respond to the following:

    · Consider your three motivations and describe if each of them is intrinsic or extrinsic motivation.

    · What role do you see these types of motivation serving in your life (e.g. do you see any patterns, are they all one type, etc.)?

    · Consider the argument against extrinsic motivation (that it decreases desires to engage in the behavior, that it decreases creativity, etc.), do you see it coming into play here?  Or do you see it serving a momentary role with hopes the behavior will eventually become intrinsically motivated?

    · Have there been times you have been unmotivated? How could you have put either intrinsic or extrinsic motivation in place to change that?

**Discussion Board Activity (DBA) 3: Chapters 5,6,7,8**

    **Chapter 5 Prompt**…

    **Chapter 6 Prompt…**

Consider what you have learned about operant and classical conditioning. In both cases, we are seeing how much of what we see/do is associated with outcomes. One place where both types of conditioning are often on display is commercials and advertisements. Select a commercial or advertisement, then:

    · Describe the Ad or Commercial.

    · First explain how you see classical conditioning displayed (what is the CS, US, UR, CR).

    · Then explain how you see operant conditioning at play (behavior, reinforcement, etc.)

    · Did either of these forms of conditioning motivate you to purchase this type of product?
