    WK2 DISCUSSION2 HP-114

    **Layperson Paragraph**

You will need to turn a layperson's paragraph into a medical professional paragraph. Learning is increased when students practice going in both directions; formal to informal, and informal to formal.

    Example

**Casual:** I fell off my motorcycle and broke my arm. It hurt something terrible and the bones were sticking right through my arm. The medic said it was cutting off my blood flow and my fingers were numb and purply. I was really worried the doctors would have to cut them right off. But when I got to the hospital, I saw a special bone doctor and he fixed me right up.

**Formal:** The patient sustained an open compound fracture of the radius. He was complaining of severe 10/10 pain. Circulation distal to the injury was decreased. Fingers were pale with paresthesia. The patient asked if his fingers would have to be amputated. The patient was referred to an orthopedic specialist.

Produce a casual and formal paragraph describing the terminology for a pathology.

_Include the following aspects in the discussion:_

    – The response should be long enough to ensure the chosen terms are used.
    – The terms can be from chapters 1 through 5.
    – Underline the terms and supporting terms, and place definitions for each at the end of the initial discussion post.
    – Discuss peers’ posts, were the terms used correctly?
    – Cite any references. At all times proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Copying and pasting are not allowed. Always use your own words.75-150 words

    WK2 DISCUSSION HP-114

    **Using Medical Terminology**

It is very helpful to use the new words you are learning in the context they will be used. It helps you relate the terms to their meaning. The technique allows you to build upon what you already know. Each week you will practice using the new words. Add as much as you can to your discussion posts so you can obtain feedback from faculty and peers on whether you have it correctly.

Exemplar: A 6-year-old male presented with likely gastroenteritis. C/o nausea without emesis, diarrhea, flatulence, and eructating. Denies rebound tenderness, r/o appendicitis. No pyrexia, but anorexia for two days.

    Definitions:

    Gastroenteritis:

    Nausea:

    Emesis:

    Diarrhea:

    Flatulence:

    Eructating:

    Appendicitis:

    Pyrexia:

**Use medical terms in a short paragraph of your creation.**

Include the following aspects in the discussion:

    – Choose three medical terms.
    – Each paragraph should be long enough to ensure the term is used with as many other medical terms as possible (see exemplar)
    – Each term should pertain to anatomy and physiology
    – Underline each term and place definitions for each at the end of the initial discussion post (see exemplar)
    – Discuss peers’ posts, were the terms used correctly?
    – Cite any references. At all times proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Copying and pasting are not allowed. Always use your own words. 75-150 words

    WK2 discussion HP-111

**What Type of Healthcare Provider Are You?**

"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high, and we miss it, but that our aim is too low, and we reach it." – Michelangelo

Regardless of what program you are in (there is a listing in week one), remember, that these are entry-level programs. They are designed to get your foot into the healthcare door. One of the **best** things about choosing a healthcare career is that it is possible, to begin with short, job-attaining certificates and work your way up. Along the way feel free to change tracks or add a certification in an area of interest. The most important thing is to **get** into a healthcare position. You need that ground-level experience to support the upper-level specialties.

This week the readings and videos should provide you with a good idea of the types of careers. Don’t forget the technical careers specializing in health technology, healthcare computer systems, biomedical devices, prosthesis development, physical therapy, home health, and so many more. And yes, leadership is a _thing._ You can choose it. Careers should be managed. Managed and planned. But don’t be afraid to change trajectories as you learn more and are exposed to endless possibilities if something interests you.

The difference between great people and everyone else is that great people create their lives actively, while everyone else is created by their lives, passively waiting to see where life takes them next. The difference between the two is the difference between living fully and just existing." – Michael E. Gerber

**Develop a potential healthcare career path.**

Include the following aspects in the discussion:

    – Review potential healthcare careers.
    – Choose one (this may be a path with several levels) and locate a scholarly reference about the career.
    – Summarize the career you have found, and what education/experience/certification will be needed.
    – Discuss why you think this career will be a good fit for you.
    – Cite any references. Proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling are required. Use your own words. Copying and pasting are not allowed. 150-200 words

    Introduction

![A doctor working on a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/wk-8-dis-data)

How might you predict future events in your practice? Why is it important, as a future DNP-prepared nurse, to consider such future events?

For a DNP-prepared nurse, future predictions might lead to better patient outcomes and care. Therefore, analyzing factors to predict or evaluate can assist in transforming nursing practice or healthcare delivery. The “statistical procedure most commonly used for prediction is regression analysis” (Gray & Grove, 2020).

    **Reference:** Gray, J. R., & Grove, S. K. (2020).
_Burns and Grove’s the practice of nursing research: Appraisal, synthesis, and generation of evidence_ (9th ed.). Elsevier

    What's Happening This Week?

In Week 8, Regression, you will examine the application of linear regression. You will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the findings in a research study determined with linear regression, as well as explore alternatives to strengthen the aims of the study. You will also begin work on the Quality Improvement Project. While this Assignment is not due until Week 10, you are encouraged to begin this Assignment this week.

    Learning Objectives

    **Students will:**

    · Explain how the prediction concept and regression could be a useful analytic tool in nursing

    · Differentiate between logistic and multiple regression

    · Analyze multiple and logistic output and a published study

**Directions for Use of the Individual Evidence Summary Tool**

**Purpose:** Use this form to document and collate the results of the review and appraisal of each piece of evidence in preparation for evidence synthesis. The table headers indicate important elements of each article that will contribute to the synthesis process. The data in each cell should be complete enough that the other team members can gather all relevant information related to the evidence without having to go to each source article.

**See Chapter 11, “Lessons from Practice,” for examples of completed tools.**

    **Reviewer Name(s):**

Record the member(s) of the team who are providing the information for each article. This will provide tracking if there are follow-up items or additional questions on an individual piece of evidence.

    **Article Number:**

Assign a number to each piece of evidence included in the table. This organizes the individual evidence summary and provides an easy way to reference articles.

    **Author, Date, and Title:**

Record the last name of the first author of the article, the publication/communication date, and the title. This will help track articles throughout the literature search, screening, and review process. It is also helpful when someone has authored more than one publication included in the review.

    **Type of Evidence:**

Indicate the type of evidence for each source. This should be descriptive of the study or project design (e.g., randomized control trial, meta-analysis, mixed methods, qualitative, systematic review, case study, literature review) and not simply the level on the evidence hierarchy.

    **Population, Size, and Setting:**

For research evidence, provide a quick view of the population, number of participants, and study location. For non-research evidence, population refers to the target audience, patient population, or profession. Non-research evidence may or may not have a sample size and/or location as found with research evidence.

    **Intervention:**

Record the intervention(s) implemented or discussed in the article. This should relate to the intervention or comparison elements of your PICO question.

**Findings That Help Answer the EBP Question:**

List findings from the article that directly answer the EBP question. These should be succinct statements that provide enough information that the reader does not need to return to the original article. Avoid directly copying and pasting from the article.

    **Measures Used**:

These are the measures and/or instruments (e.g., counts, rates, satisfaction surveys, validated tools, subscales) the authors used to determine the answer to the research question or the effectiveness of their intervention. Consider these measures as identified in the evidence for collection during the implementation of the EBP team’s project.

    **Limitations:**

Provide the limitations of the evidence—both as listed by the authors as well as your assessment of any flaws or drawbacks. Consider the methodology, quality of reporting, and generalizability to the population of interest. Limitations should be apparent from the team’s appraisals using the Research and Non-Research Evidence Appraisal Tools (Appendices E and F). It can be helpful to consider the reasons an article did not receive a “high” quality rating because these reasons are limitations identified by the team. Comment by Christine Powers: Just a note that this wasn’t included in the folder to editorial.

    **Evidence Level and Quality:**

Using the Research and Non-Research Evidence Appraisal tools (Appendices E and F), record the level (I–V) and quality (A, B, or C) of the evidence. When possible, at least two reviewers should determine the level and quality.

    **Notes to Team:**

The team uses this section to keep track of items important to the EBP process not captured elsewhere on this tool. Consider items that will be helpful to have easy reference to when conducting the evidence synthesis.

Each entry must follow **current professional APA formatting guidelines** and include a brief annotation summarizing the source and its relevance to your project. It is important that these are summaries of the content and do not include direct quotes.
