    **Module 3 – Case**

    **E-Business, E-Commerce, and M-Commerce**

    **Assignment Overview**

The Case Assignment for this module involves your understanding the e-business sector as a component of the information technology revolution that is evolving from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0. As usual, we have identified some salient sources that will be of help to you in forming this understanding. The question is: Where is this all going, and what are the effects likely to be? Forecasting the future is always a risky proposition; if it weren't, there would be a whole lot more Mark Zuckerbergs out there riding their visions to billionaire-hood. Of course, figuring out that things are likely to change and figuring out exactly how to monetize some small piece of that change process for your own benefit are rather different things. Let us start with the simpler aspect; based on where you see the world of e-commerce today as part of the overall information technology management domain, what is the potential for future development? Certainly, it would be silly to presume that within the past 5 to 10 years we've managed to figure out everything possible to do in the economic domain with electronic commerce. We know there will be change. The  question is what, where, and with what effects?

The format for your assignment for this module is a little different from that for the first two modules. Before, you were essentially constructing point/counterpoint arguments relative to a particular proposition. This assignment calls for a more open-ended approach. Essentially, you're doing some forecasting about the future of the electronic economy. If you do this well enough, maybe you will be the next Mark Zuckerberg—or maybe not. At any rate, give it a shot. Obviously, there are no clear right or wrong answers to this question; we don't have a list in mind of things that we expect you to come up with, except in the most general sense. It's your job to make a case for your forecast. It's not enough just to say "I think that X will happen"; you have to say rather precisely what X is, what it will do for people, why people might be persuaded to use it, and what sort of individual and societal effects it might be expected to have. This involves going to your sources, finding supporting evidence, and developing each of your ideas logically. Futurology is not just blue-sky theorizing or speculative science fiction; while time travel and matter transmutation might be expected to have major economic effects, I doubt you could develop a reasonable argument saying that they're likely to happen within the next decade. And a lot of people have gone broke trying to forecast the future of information technology. On the other hand, there have always been long-term trends that have enabled a lot of people to develop ideas that worked; for example,
[_Moore's Law_](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore%27s_law) seems to be still operating. So as you review the materials, try to think about these trends, project from where we are now to what seems reasonable, even if it's a bit adventurous, and make the best arguments you can. We'll be evaluating your arguments, not necessarily waiting around to find out if your vision comes true.

As we noted before, if you do not really pay attention to this material, it's really unlikely that you can write an acceptable paper on the topic below, let alone an exceptional one. We spend quite a lot of time trying to identify useful sources for you that bear on our topics for analysis; while we strongly encourage you to conduct your own further research and identify additional useful sources, this should be an add-on to the basic material rather than a substitute for it.

    **Case Assignment**

When you have read through the articles and related material, compose a 4- to 6-page critical analysis paper as outlined above, on the topic:

Describe three big developments in e-business that will become commonplace by the year 2025. Explain why you selected each development and the impact it will have on society and on businesses.

As we said, your discussion needs to be supported by the literature and the evidence. Obviously, as noted below, this will obligate you to actually be able to present such evidence in an academically respectable manner.

    **Assignment Expectations**

**You Will Be Particularly Assessed On**

    · Your ability to see what the module is all about and to structure your paper accordingly.

    · Your informed commentary and analysis—simply repeating what your sources say does not constitute an adequate paper.

    · Your ability to apply the professional language and terminology of e-business and systems correctly and in context; you are expected to be familiar with this language and use it appropriately.

    · Your effective and appropriate use of in-text citations to the assigned readings and other source material to support your arguments. Please use Trident's

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

    – Why is risk analysis in health      IT an important part of the planning phase?
    – What is the difference between      quantitative risk and qualitative risk analysis?
    – Why do you need to measure      both?
    – Please provide examples of each      type of risk analysis.

Post 2 100 words replies to classmates or your faculty member. Be constructive and professional.

**Lindsey Simpson-** Risk analysis is a very critical part of the planning phase in healthcare IT. Risk analysis helps identify potential threats and vulnerabilities that could compromise the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of health information. By quantifying these risks, organizations can strategically plan to mitigate them. The main difference between qualitative and quantitative risk analysis is their approach to the process. Qualitative risk tends to be more subjective and it focuses on identifying risks to measure both the likelihood of specific risk event occurring during the project life cycle and the impact it will have on the overall schedule should it hit. While Quantitative risk are objective, they use verifiable data to analyze the effects of risk in terms of cost overruns, scope creep. resource consumption, and schedule delays. Its important to measure both quantitative and qualitative risk because Quantitative risk analysis assigns numerical values to risks, allowing for precise measurements and statistical evaluation. While Qualitative risk analysis evaluates subjective qualities such as severity and likelihood using description terms. when it comes to risk management the quantitative approach is better for managing the risk of modern projects.

    **Anitre** High- Top of Form

Risk analysis is super important in the planning stage of any health IT project because it helps figure out what could go wrong, how likely it is to happen, and what kind of damage it could cause. Hospitals and healthcare organizations deal with very private information like medical records and test results. If that information gets leaked or systems crash, it can seriously affect patient care and get the organization in legal trouble. By doing a risk analysis early on, the organization can fix problems before they happen and avoid bigger issues later. There are two main types of risk analysis: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative is all about the numbers it looks at how much money a risk might cost and how likely it is to happen. For example, a hacker attack might cost $100,000 and has a 5% chance of happening each year. Qualitative is more general it looks at how serious a risk is using words like "low," "medium," or "high." For example, you might say there’s a high risk of someone accessing medical data because passwords are weak. You need both types because numbers help you plan your budget and resources, while general descriptions help you understand the big picture. Using both gives you a full view so you can make smarter decisions.

**Assignment:** In your fourth meeting with the CIO, she tells you she is considering outsourcing several critical IT functions.

Select 1 of the following critical IT functions for your presentation:

    – Storage of medical images
    – Support of desktop computers
    – Support for the organization’s      local and wide-area data network.

Create an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation for your stakeholders. Your presentation should focus on the chosen critical IT function in relation to:

    – Why you consider      outsourcing
    – The advantages and disadvantages      of outsourcing
    – The role of information      technology in facilitating interdisciplinary communication in a health      care organization
    – The information technology      organizational structures and functions for various types and levels of      health care organizations
    – The process that is considered      when working with vendors

Cite at least 3 reputable references. One reference must be your textbook, _Managing Risk in Information Systems_. Reputable references include trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality **.**

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    Project #2: Manager’s Deskbook

    Company Background & Operating Environment

Red Clay Renovations is an internationally recognized, awarding winning firm that specializes in the renovation and rehabilitation of residential buildings and dwellings. The company specializes in updating homes using “smart home” and “Internet of Things” technologies while maintaining period correct architectural characteristics. Please refer to the company profile posted in the online classroom for additional background information and information about the company’s operating environment.

Policy Issue & Plan of Action

The Manager’s Deskbook contains issue specific policies and implementation procedures which are required to mitigate risks to the company and to otherwise ensure good governance of the company’s operations. The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and key CISO staff members held a kick-off meeting last week to identify issue specific policies which should be added to the company’s policy system in the IT Governance category. The policies will be disseminated throughout the company by incorporating them into the Manager’s Deskbook. The required issue specific policies are:

    1. Data Breach Response Policy

    2. Preventing / Controlling Shadow IT Policy

    3. Management and Use of Corporate Social Media Accounts Policy

For the purposes of this assignment, you will create a policy recommendations briefing package (containing an Executive Summary and draft policies) and submit that to your instructor for grading.

Note: In a “real world” environment, the policy recommendations briefing package would be submitted to the IT Governance board for discussion and vetting. After revisions and voting, a package containing the accepted policies would be sent to all department heads and executives for comment and additional vetting. These comments would be combined and integrated into the policies and sent out for review again. It usually takes several rounds of review and comments before the policies can be sent to the Chief of Staff’s office for forwarding to the Corporate Governance Board. During the review & comments period, the policies will also be subjected to a thorough legal review by the company’s attorneys. Upon final approval by the Corporate Governance Board, the policies will be adopted and placed into the Manager’s Deskbook. This entire process can take 9 to 12 months, if not longer.

    Your Task Assignment

As a staff member supporting the CISO, you have been asked to research and then draft an issue specific policy for each of the identified issues (three separate policies). These policies are to be written for MANAGERS and must identify the issue, explain what actions must be taken to address the issue (the company’s “policy”), state the required actions to implement the policy, and name the responsible / coordinating parties (by level, e.g. department heads, or by title on the organization chart).

After completing your research and reviewing sample policies from other organizations, you will then prepare an “approval draft” for each issue specific policy.

    • The purpose of each issue specific policy is to address a specific IT governance issue that requires cooperation and collaboration between multiple departments within an organization.

    • Each issue specific policy should be no more than two typed pages in length (single space paragraphs with a blank line between).

    • You will need to be concise in your writing and only include the most important elements for each policy.

    • You may refer to an associated “procedure” if necessary, e.g. a Procedure for Requesting Issuance of a Third Level Domain Name (under the company’s Second Level Domain name) or a Procedure for Requesting Authorization to Establish a Social Media Account.

Your “approval drafts” will be combined with a one page Executive Summary (explaining why these issue specific policies are being brought before the IT Governance Board).

    Research:

    1. Review the table of contents and relevant chapters in the Certified Information Privacy Professional textbook to find information about legal and regulatory drivers.

    2. Review NIST’s definition of an “Issue Specific Policy” and contents thereof in NIST SP 800-12 Section 5.3. This document provides information about the content of an issue specific policy (as compared to comprehensive system and enterprise security policies).

    3. Review the weekly readings and resource documents posted in the classroom. Pay special attention to the resources which contain “issues” and “best practices” information for:

    • Data Breach Response

    • Preventing / Controlling Shadow IT

    • Social Media

    4. Review NIST guidance for required / recommended security controls (see NIST SP 800-12, NIST SP 800-53, and NIST SP 800-100). Some suggested control families are:

    • Access Control (AC) control family (for Social Media policy)

    • Incident Response (IR) control family (for Data Breach policy)

    • System and Services Acquisition (SA) control family (Domain Name, Shadow IT, Website Governance)

    5. Find and review additional authoritative / credible sources on your own which provide information about IT security issues (related to data breaches / responses, shadow IT, and/or social media use) which require policy solutions.

    Write:

    1. Prepare briefing package with approval drafts of the three IT related policies for the Manager’s Deskbook. Your briefing package must contain the following:

    • Executive Summary

    • “Approval Drafts” for

    o Data Breach Response Policy

o Preventing / Controlling Shadow IT Policy

o Management and Use of Corporate Social Media Accounts Policy

As you write your policies, make sure that you address IT and cybersecurity concepts using standard terminology.

    2. Use a professional format for your policy documents and briefing package. Your policy documents should be consistently formatted and easy to read.

    3. You must include a cover page with the assignment title, your name, and the due date. Your reference list must be on a separate page at the end of your file. These pages do not count towards the assignment’s page count.

    4. Common phrases do not require citations. If there is doubt as to whether or not information requires attribution, provide a footnote with publication information or use APA format citations and references.

    5. You are expected to write grammatically correct English in every assignment that you submit for grading. Do not turn in any work without (a) using spell check, (b) using grammar check, (c) verifying that your punctuation is correct and (d) reviewing your work for correct word usage and correctly structured sentences and paragraphs.

    6. Consult the grading rubric for specific content and formatting requirements for this assignment.

    7. Submit your Manager’s Deskbook briefing package in MS Word format (.docx or .doc file) for grading using your assignment folder. (Attach the file.)

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

**Assignment:** The CIO needs your assistance in building a risk management plan. The organization has implemented an electronic health record (EHR) system to comply with the provisions of the HITECH Act, which provides short-term incentives for using an EHR in a meaningful way and long-term penalties for failing to use an EHR.

The CIO would like to extend the capabilities of the EHR to provide a portal through which patients can access their health records. The CIO explains that she has concerns about the idea of a patient portal, especially pertaining to the organization’s ability to comply with privacy and security laws. In addition, she is concerned about access to medical records in the event of some sort of natural disasters, such as a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, or flood.

The CIO would like you to perform a risk analysis and develop a risk management plan focused on the patient portal to their EHR that addresses legal, regulatory, and environmental risks.

You will complete each section of this report.

Complete the following document using the [Risk Management Plan Template](https://myresource.phoenix.edu/secure/resource/HCIS420v6/hcis420_v6_wk5_risk_management_plan.docx):

    – Risk Identification
    – Risk Analysis
    – Explain techniques for      quantitative risk analysis for selected critical IT functions.
    – Explain techniques for      qualitative risk analysis for selected critical IT functions.
    – Risk Response Planning
    – Analyze techniques for risk      response planning for selected critical IT functions.
    – Risk Monitoring
    – Analyze techniques for risk      monitoring planning for selected critical IT functions.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word memo to discuss the importance of regulatory requirements, security and privacy laws, and monitoring compliance. Your memo should:

    – Explain the major regulatory      requirements that have a direct effect on IT in a health care organization      when outsourcing the identified IT function.
    – Explain how security and privacy      laws affect the design and operation of the outsourced IT function.
    – Explain the role of IT in      monitoring compliance with the organization’s risk management policies and      plans when outsourcing the identified IT function.

Cite at least 3 reputable references. One reference must be your textbook, _Managing Risk in Information Systems_. Reputable references include trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality.

Format your presentation according to APA guidelines. Include a title page, detailed speaker notes, and a references page.

**Discussion:** Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

Not all risks have an equal probability of occurrence, nor are they all equal in potential impact.

    – How would you organize your      project team to sort the high-probability and high-impact risks from the      low-probability and low-impact risks and manage them accordingly?
    – Also, consider as a project      manager, a big part of your role is customer communications. Define your      communication strategy and its frequency and type to be sure all      stakeholders are constantly informed.

**Tiffany Wilson**-To effectively manage risks with varying probabilities and impacts and maintain robust stakeholder communication, I would implement the following strategies:

**Risk Prioritization and Team Organization:** My approach to risk management involves a structured, multi-faceted strategy, leveraging both qualitative and quantitative analysis, and is embedded within a clear organizational framework.

    1. **Establish a Risk Management      Committee:** I      would form a dedicated Risk Management Committee (RMC) composed of subject      matter experts from diverse of the project, including engineering,      finance, operations, and legal. This ensures a comprehensive assessment of      risks from multiple perspectives.
    2. **Qualitative Risk Assessment:** Initially, the RMC would conduct      a qualitative risk assessment to categorize risks based on their      probability and impact. This involves

    – **Probability Assessment:** Utilizing a predefined      probability scale (e.g., Very Low, Low, Moderate, High, Very High) with      corresponding numerical ranges (e.g., 0.01-0.99), the RMC would estimate      the likelihood of each identified risk occurring
    – **Impact Assessment:** Similarly, the RMC would assess      the potential impact of each risk on project objectives (e.g., schedule,      cost, performance) using a defined impact scale (e.g., Negligible, Minor,      Moderate, Major, Catastrophic) with corresponding quantitative thresholds (e.g.,      $0-$10k cost overrun, 1-week schedule delay).
    – **Risk Matrix:** The results of the quantitative      assessment are then mapped onto a risk matrix (Probability vs. Impact).      this visual tool categorizes risks into zones.

            3. **Quantitative Risk Assessment:** For high-priority risks identified in the qualitative assessment, a more rigorous quantitative analysis would be performed.

**Kristi Spears-** Organizing a Project Team for Risk Prioritization and Management

Since risks vary in probability and impact, sorting and managing them effectively requires a structured approach. Here’s how I would organize a project team to handle this:

    1. Risk Assessment &      Categorization

    – Establish a Risk Review      Committee consisting of senior project members, IT security experts, and      compliance officers.
    – Use a Risk Matrix to classify      risks into high-probability, high-impact vs. low-probability, low-impact      categories.
    – Conduct brainstorming sessions      and historical data analysis to estimate risk likelihood and severity.

    1. Role Assignments for Risk      Handling

    – Risk Owners: Assign specific      team members to oversee critical risks and mitigation efforts.
    – Mitigation Specialists: Task      security engineers or analysts with designing control measures for      high-priority risks.
    – Compliance Monitors: Ensure      regulatory adherence, particularly for IT risks affecting legal and      privacy concerns.
    – Contingency Planning Team:      Develop backup strategies for risks that cannot be fully mitigated.

    1. Risk Management Strategies

    – High-Probability, High-Impact      Risks: Immediate mitigation required through strict security protocols,      system redundancies, or vendor reassessments.
    – High-Probability, Low-Impact      Risks: Develop operational safeguards with minimal disruption.
    – Low-Probability, High-Impact      Risks: Maintain contingency plans for rare but severe incidents (e.g.,      ransomware attacks).
    – Low-Probability, Low-Impact      Risks: Monitor passively without extensive resource allocation.
